Rama Greens is a 42 acre Villa Development that we designed in Raipur, with a total of 90 villas, a well equipped clubhouse and plenty of green spaces to foster a spirit of community amongst the neighborhood.
In the overall master planning, we were conscious in creating a community where the connect with nature would be constant. The relationship of the built form and lung spaces is crucial, and spaces have been designed to take advantage of landscaped views from every vantage point.
The orientation of the villas was intentionally placed along an east-west axis. With this simple move, we were able to avoid any South facing plots, a detriment according to Vastu. Also by placing the villas perpendicular to the suns path we were able to create partially shaded roads, a welcome reprieve from Raipur’s scorching summer temperatures.
There are a total of 4 types of villas, in 2 plot sizes of 55’x90’ and 70’x100’. Each villa has a distinctive architectural form and by placing different clusters on opposite sides of the road, we overcame any sense of monotony. The 40,000 square foot Clubhouse is interspersed with natural water bodies and courtyards and has amenities such as a restaurant, spa, pool, gym, squash and badminton courts, library, banquets and a children’s play area.
The architectural language has many elements from the tropical-modern design vocabulary that our firm is known for. Accentuated sloping roofs with large overhangs protect from sun and rain and a familiar pallete of local material is used liberally. Earthy materials like Terracotta tiles, timber, kota stone, beige sandstone and polished cement come together to create a harmonious and balanced pallete that resonates with nature.
The two main axes of the development have three circular landscaped nodes that facilitate navigation as well as act like public plazas to sit around. Two additional landscaped parks with trees and stone benches facilitate community interaction.
The clubhouse is located near the entrance of the development so that it is accessible to visitors easily serviced by maintenance staff. Our design takes into account the needs of every age group in the community. Each of the public spaces is wheelchair accessible for the elderly and disabled. Children have a wide variety of open air and closed play/learning spaces. Best practices of sustainability are used in rainwater harvesting and solid waste management.
